History of Selmec

Established 16th December 1996, by the three founder members Michael Collins, Neville Tasker and John Richmond IEng MIET. The company began as an idea in the September of 1996 with the three original Partners working hard to get the administration in place ready for the new year of 1997, the company LLP was officially formed 16th December 1996, the companies first full-time employee Dave Townsend was appointed in early 1997.

The three Partners spent many hours working and administrating the company with help from the family members.

The company amalgamated with Dalton Joinery in 2001 and incorporated in 2005. Neville Tasker retired in 2006; Michael Collins Retired in 2018.

SELMEC has grown through continued investment both in equipment and in CPD and staff training, by valuing the staff and ensure an excellent client focused service

SELMEC has matured into a large Electrical, Mechanical, Engineering and Maintenance contractor with a solid base of repeat clients in Commercial, Industrial, educational and health care sectors.

To this day the company still sees it heart routed in Family values, and we believe firmly in Decarbonisation, Social value and the Local circular economy.

John Richmond IEng MIET – Chief executive officer to the board

Beginning his career as an Electrical Apprentice in 1987 and undertaking six years of qualifications John started SELMEC in 1996 as one of three original LLP Members. Having gained a wealth of experience on design and installation, covering all aspects of electrical engineering and building management control engineering. Responsible for, the finance, strategic direction, oversight, policies, innovation, procurement, design and training within the company. John is also a committed volunteer being the current Chair of governors of a local school.

Mike Coe Eng Tech MIET – Managing Director

Mike joined the company in 2004 having held positions as Electrical Engineer and Maintenance Team Leader. Sequestered to the University of Lincoln for three years as a facilities manager. Mike has an in-depth business acumen and is an exceptionally gifted, capable and considerate leader. Mike is responsible for management of all operations of the company and is currently work toward IEng.

David Sheldrake BEng (Hons) – Director (responsible for Health & Safety)

David joined us in January 2013 to enhance and further develop our Mechanical Services division. Health and Safety trained (Nebosh National Certificate of Construction Safety and Health) and the responsible director for health and safety David brings with him a wide-ranging experience of Mechanical engineering Services covering all sectors including Design and Build and traditional consultant designed projects. David graduated from Brunel University in 1998 with a B.Eng. (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering with Building Services Design.

Colette Burns (BA Hons Accountancy & Finance) – Finance Director

Colette joined the company in 2014 to assist the then Finance Director. Having qualified from Nottingham Trent University in 1993 with a degree in Accountancy & Finance; Colette has had varied industry experience in both public & private sector companies over the intervening years
